The time-strike 8-day movement in an unremarkable 1930s American Ingraham mantel clock ticking away. I disassembled this and rebushed the worn pivot holes and polished the pivots as needed. I used to refurbish these in an attempt at a career, but I was unable to find a mentor willing to teach me enough to become a skilled clockmaker. Sadly, fixing these things is a dying art in the age of quartz timepieces. If there are any older folks out there that have worked as a clockmaker and are looking to pass on their knowledge, please contact me.

How to synchronize the striking on a Seth Thomas tambour mantel clock from the 1920’s. This clock strikes the hour and half-hour on a cathedral gong. It has “active” half-hour striking, in which the gears turn during half-hour striking.
